Energy represents a significant cost for us and is the source of most of our carbon emissions. Our business strategy calls for cost-effective operational improvements to use energy more efficiently, which also reduces our emissions of greenhouse gases (GHG) and improves our environmental performance. We have a global energy target to improve our energy efficiency 15% (MJ/hl) by the end of 2012 (baseline 2008). We have also set a GHG emissions intensity target of 7% reduction by the end of 2012 (baseline 2008). Detailed reporting of our GHG emissions is available on the Carbon Disclosure Project website.

Carbon Reduction Strategy
Our carbon reduction strategy is based on a balanced approach across four pillars: People (Capability, Culture), Systems (IT, Processes), Engineering (Efficiency, Fuel Change), and External (Carbon Trading, Supply Chain, Renewable). The initial focus is on reducing our scope 1 and scope 2 emissions with prioritisation of action based on lowest cost of carbon abatement (or greatest return on investment).
